OTHER HOBBIES NIGHT AT THE COIN SHOW
In Robert Turfboer's English translation of Pierre Bastien's book "Les Numismates" (The Coin Collectors)" we learn the story of "Baron Lodovico Soltieri, a wealthy Florentine who collected coins from his own city exclusively. Despite this specialty, he never missed a European numismatic conference and had come to this one also…
"He was always accompanied by a beautiful woman whom he invariably introduced as his wife. The real baroness, a chronic invalid, never left the family palace and her husband always traveled in the company of one of his mistresses. People in numismatic circles whispered that Soltieri collected more Florentines than Florentine coins."
