GARRETT ARCHIVE AT ANS

In response to last week's question about the Garrett archives, ANS Executive Director Ute Wartenburg writes:

"Yes, this is indeed the Garrett Archive, and we are really thrilled to receive this gift. It came to us thanks to the hard work of David and Susan Tripp, who have been tireless supporters of the ANS and in particular the library. They also contributed $1000 for a fund for the Garrett Archive. Any suggestions what a fund that will hopefully grow could do? Frank Campbell will write a major piece for the next ANS Newsletter."

With the ANS in financial straits, there is no better time to for bibliophiles to support the library with a donation. Mr. Campbell undoubtedly has a wish list of good uses for library funds. Two important categories would be preservation and publication. The library and its new acquisitions must be preserved and protected above all else. Indexing and publication are next - the library is useless if researchers can't find what they need. The library's program to convert its catalogue to electronic format is of paramount importance for the 21st century. It will be a banner day for numismatic research when this newsletter can publish the address of a web page for the ANS library catalogue.
