MORE ON THE WILLIAM A. BURD NUMISMATIC LIBRARY

Ragarding the William A. Burd Numismatic Library, Tom DeLorey writes:

Burd Numismatic Library Bill Burd's Chicago Coin Company is not located in downtown Chicago. It is a little over a mile west of the northwest corner of Midway airport.

My wife and I attended Bill's open house. The library really is quite wonderful! While browsing the shelves, I could not resist taking down his copy of the Coin World Comprehensive Catalogue & Encyclopedia and signing it above my name, dating it with the date of his open house. I then apologized for decreasing the value of the book!

I guess I read "Chicago storefront" and "Chicago Coin Company" and assumed the store was in Chicago. Sorry! Thanks for the correction. It does sound like a great library. -Editor

THE MINTING EQUIPMENT BAZARRE

Angelo DiMaria Inc. of Providence, Rhode Island (est. 1928) is liquidating its assets. Available for sale are Janvier reducing machines. For over a century these devices have been at the core of the coin and medal-making process, taking a large sculptor's model and reducing it to die of the proper size for striking.
