QUERY: GUIDE TO ANCIENT NUMISMATICS AUTHOR RAYMOND LADD SOUGHTLarry Gaye writes: I need some help to locate the author, Raymond Ladd, or the publisher, JSD Numismatic Publications, of the soft covered book The Illustrated Grading Guide to Ancient Numismatics which was published in 1977. This is all the information given in the book. I want to know if we can get permission to publish/ copy the book to our club website. If the author or publisher can't be located to grant permission how does one attempt to legally publish or copy their work? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The answer may hinge on whether the book contains a Copyright notice.
Books published from 1923 through 1977 WITHOUT a copyright notice are "In the public domain due to failure to comply with required formalities". For book published 1964 through 1977 WITH a copyright notice have a copyright term of 95 years after the publication date.
