COIN ART BY STACEY LEE WEBBER

Joe Esposito writes:

I saw some interesting jewelry made from U.S. coins by Stacey Lee Webber at the National Archives gift shop. When I looked at her website, I found even more interesting items: power tools, hand tools, trays, baskets, and even a kettle made from coins.

Thanks! - here are some examples of her work. The artworks are fascinating. Why get an ordinary teapot or tool when you can get one made out of coins? -Editor

Vessels

Penny Kettle

Buffalo Basket2

Hand Tools
The Craftsmen Collection contains working man's tools recreated in copper pennies. The sculptures are entirely hollow and true to size. The ghostlike representations of the original tools question the value of labor and time inherent in the object. Sculptures from this series have been acquired by numerous private collections and the Smithsonian's Renwick Gallery in Washington DC.

Penny Saw

Penny Ladder

Power Tools
The Craftsmen Collection: Power Tools is a progression of the series into more aggressive electric tools. The power tools are recreated in copper pennies, including the cord and plug. The sculptures are entirely hollow and true to size. The ghostlike representations of the original tools question the value of labor and time inherent in the object. Sculptures from this series have been collected by the Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton MA.

Penny Drill

Penny circular Saw

Amazing work. Great gifts for coin collecting Moms and Dads, but surely not cheap - these must take a lot of painstaking design and labor to create. -Editor
