NUMISMATIC NUGGETS: MARCH 11, 2018Here's a selection of interesting or unusual items I came across in the marketplace this week. Tell us what you think of some of these. -Editor
1878 Italy Vittorio Emanuele II Medal   1878 - Italy - Vittorio Emanuele II medal on the day of his death. On the obverse, the King facing left, under his neck ‘N. F.’ - On the reverse, inscriptions inside a laurel wreath surmounted by the Star of Italy above the Savoy Crown. Perfect condition with patina. A wordy reverse, but a decent bronze medal. -Editor

Front: allegory of new Italy meeting old Italy, on the floor a lilied shield on a palm branch - Back: Italian inscription between the 1848 Statute and floral patterns. Johnson - Milan. I don't know what the 1848 Statute is, but I love the staircase. Architectural medals are great, but usually focus on a sweeping view of an exterior or a large-scale
interior, such as a cathedral. It's unusual for a medal to focus on one architectural element such as this grand staircase. Very nice. -Editor

Year 1933 Back: signatures of the crew against a rising sun with clouds Diameter: 41 mm Great aviation medal with classic Art Deco lettering. -Editor

I don't see any indications of who designed or made it, though. -Editor
