CENTRAL AMERICA SALE CANCELED

Sotheby's has canceled the sale of artifacts from the S. S. Central America, originally scheduled for December 8th. Their web site displays this notice:

"Sotheby's has been advised by its consignors that the sale of the Treasure from the SS Central America must be canceled. The United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, in confidential proceedings, issued an injunction preventing the sale. Accordingly, the sale will not take place as scheduled but Sotheby's is hopeful that a sale of this extraordinary property will take place in the near future. "

QUICK QUIZ: This is not the first numismatic auction to have been planned and published only to be canceled at the last minute. The auction catalogs for "sales that never were" would make an interesting mini-collection. So … can you name some of these sales and the reasons for their cancellation?
