The E-Sylum: Volume 7, Number 46, November 14, 2004, Article 20 VOCABULARY WORD: CHREMATOPHOBIA E-Sylum readers love words, and we occasionally feature unusual numismatically-related words. In the November/ December issue of PAPER MONEY, the official journal of the Society of Paper Money Collectors, editor Fred L. Reed III writes: "I thought I knew it all, but I learned a new word recently: Chrematophobia (fear of money). It seems futurists are the principal sufferers of this malady. Their phobic crystal balls forsee imminent demise of money (as we knew it and collected it in our lifetimes). Electronic blips will replace cash, checks, credits and the other stuff of which our collections are comprised. Since it's hard to collect blips, I for one am glad I'm inoculated against Chrematophobia, aren't you"?
