The E-Sylum: Volume 8, Number 44, October 16, 2005, Article 31 FEATURED WEB SITE This week's featured web site on Depression Scrip is maintained by one of our new subscribers, Rod Charlton. "The main purpose of this website is to document depression scrip. The last documentation put together on depression scrip was a great book written in 1984 by Ralph A. Mitchell and Neil Shafer. In my opinion, it's the "bible" on depression scrip. But, it lacks a few things. There aren't as many pics as I would like to see. Plus, the pictures aren't as detailed as they could be. I understand the problems with publishing something like that. It would be 12" thick if there was as much detail as I would like. Still, it's the best book ever written." The site has a nice depression scrip picture archive, and includes sections on the U.S., Canada and Europe, and related items such as Coupon Books, Cardboard Tokens, Sales Tax Tokens and Wooden Nickels. Also included is a nice bibliography and "Depression Scrip: an Annotated Bibliography" by Loren Gatch of the Department of Political Science at the University of Central Oklahoma. Rod adds: "Come see a forgotten piece of history.... " Featured Web Site Wayne Homren, Editor The Numismatic Bibliomania Society is a non-profit organization promoting numismatic literature.
