The E-Sylum: Volume 8, Number 45, October 23, 2005, Article 17 EURO BANKNOTE AND COIN COUNTERFEITS According to a report from Rome October 20, "During the first half of 2005 the finance ministry reports a 20.21 pc increase in reported euro banknote ad coin fakes YOY. The 50 euro banknotes are a prime choice for forgers, but quite surprisingly there has been a surge in false 50 cent coins." "The majority of false banknotes were taken off the market in north and central Italy. The 50 euro banknote accounts for 75.55 pc of the forged market total worth (2,224,250 euro). Counter to 2003-04 statistics forgers have shifted their interest from 1 and 2 euro coins towards 50 cent coins."
