The E-Sylum: Volume 9, Number 35, August 27, 2006, Article 11 BOB MARLEY's HEAVY METAL Arthur Shippee forwarded a New York Times article commenting on a new commemorative coin from Jamaica: "Bob Marley is going gold. And silver. But this time the discs in question arenıt recordings; theyıre commemorative coins bearing the likeness of Marley, the reggae star, who died in 1981, The Associated Press reported. Produced by the British Royal Mint and issued by the Bank of Jamaica, the coins, priced at $100 each, were intended to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Marleyıs birth in Jamaica, in 1945. The bank offered no explanation of the delay. Coins were also issued to recognize Marleyıs 50th birthday and ³have totally sold out,² said Jacqueline Morgan, a spokeswoman for the Bank of Jamaica."
