The E-Sylum: Volume 10, Number 3, January 21, 2007, Article 21 U.S. RETRACTS CANADIAN SPY COIN CLAIM Gar Travis forwarded a report published January 13th in the Toronto Star that the U.S. government has retracted its earlier claim that bugged Canadian coins had been used to spy on American contractors working in that country. "It seems there's no danger of your spare change spying on you after all. "A U.S. government defence agency has suddenly retracted its claim that Canadian coins containing tiny transmitters were planted on at least three American contractors who visited Canada. "In a statement posted late Friday on its website, the Defense Security Service said the coin claims were based on a report provided to the agency. "'The allegations, however, were found later to be unsubstantiated following an investigation into the matter,' the statement said, adding that 'the 2006 annual report should not have contained this information.'" Full Story Dave Kellogg writes: "On a minor note, I found difficulty opening the link to the CIA dollar coin. The CIA has changed the address prefix from 'http:' to 'https:'" [Those sneaky spies!
