The E-Sylum: Volume 10, Number 45, November 4, 2007, Article 21 MONSTER CANADIAN GOLD COIN ENTERS GUINNESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS The 100kg gold coin produced by the Royal Canadian Mint has been listed in the Guinness Book Of World Records as the world's largest gold coin. "'This recognition is a wonderful endorsement of the incomparable skill and imagination of the people who work at the Royal Canadian Mint,' said president and CEO Ian E. Bennett. 'The Mint has long been recognized as one of the most innovative in the world and the Guinness World Record is further evidence of this fact.' "The gold bullion coin with a $1-million face value was originally conceived as a unique showpiece to promote the Mint's new line of 99999-pure one-ounce Gold Maple Leaf coins. After several interested buyers came forward, the RCM decided to make a very limited quantity available for sale. To date, five of these majestic coins, weighing 3,215 oz each, have been purchased by investors from Canada and abroad. "The reverse of the coins features an elegant maple leaf designed by senior engraver Stan Witten and the obverse bears the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by celebrated Canadian portrait artist Susanna Blunt. The coins are manufactured in Ottawa."
