MORE ON BYRON REED AND HIS NUMISMATIC LIBRARYPete Smith writes:Mitch Ernst asked about anything previously published
about Byron Reed or his collection. One source is his obituary in the
American Journal of Numismatics for July 1891. I don't have a copy
in my files. My files do include an article in the November 28, 1990,
issue of Coin World. "History surrounds Omaha museum visitors" was written
by Dr. Richard S. Appel. This included some biographical information of
Reed and a description of the exhibit at the Western Heritage Museum in
Omaha. The article mentions the Reed library including 1836 books plus
3243 pamphlets and documents. These include other fields beyond
numismatics. I was fortunate to visit the museum about a year ago. I
believe the exhibit I saw was changed from the exhibit shown in 1990.
Perhaps Dr. Lee can explain some of these changes. Wayne Homren, Editor The Numismatic Bibliomania Society is a non-profit organization promoting numismatic literature.
