BANKNOTE PRINTER TO PRINT NEW SOLAR CELLS ON POLYMER The trend toward printing banknotes on a polymer substrate has led to some interesting side effects. One banknote printer is now using its equipment to print solar cells! -Editor Australian scientists at CSIRO’s Victorian Organic Solar Cell Consortium (VICOSC) are on a quest to make solar cells as easy to print as money. Trials of the flexible, large area, cost-effective, reel-to-reel printable plastic solar cells will even be conducted by Securency International — a banknote printing company.VICOSC’s 3-year $A12 million project is at its halfway point, with trials six months ahead of schedule. Members of VICOSC include researchers from CSIRO Future Manufacturing Flagship, University of Melbourne, Monash University.
