ANS SEEKS INPUT FOR LIBRARY DIGITIZATION PROJECT Andy Meadows of the American Numismatic Society forwarded this request for our readership. Thoughts, anyone? -Editor Now that the ANS is firmly settled in its new premises, we are turning our thoughts to some exciting new projects for the future. One of these is the opening up of our library resources to broader audiences through digital media. We are now in the planning stage of a large project to digitize items in our Rare Book Room and to make them available for a fee in a digital format to those unable to visit the library itself. Obviously this is a considerable undertaking, and our resources are limited. So we must prioritize which items we scan first according to where the greatest interest lies. We would be very grateful to you and your E-Sylum readership for suggestions as to desirable subjects for digitization in the first phase of the project (2009-2014). We might, for example, target the series of 19th and early 20th century auction catalogues of the Chapmans or Lyman Low. But there may also be individual works that we should consider too. What suggestions does your readership have? One easy recommendation would be to start with the rare works on the soon-to-be-completely published NBS survey of The 100 Greatest Items of American Numismatic Literature. The list includes catalogs and periodicals as well as books. But that's only ONE country, and ANS' literature holdings span the globe as well as all time periods.
