MORE ON EARTHQUAKE MEDALS

Leon Saryan writes:
There are a number of medals issued commemorating the 1988 earthquake in Armenia, which devastated about 1/4 of the country and killed 25,000 people.

Leon provided these images. A nice sub-genre of numismatics, and timely because of this week's earthquakes in New Zealand which triggered a tsunami watch. Coincidentally, there was also a smaller quake on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska. Dick Hanscom wasn't kidding - they DO have a lot of quakes there.

How do I know this? Well, I checked the U.S. Geological Survey's web site: Latest Earthquakes in the World - Past 7 days (http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/recenteqsww/Quakes/quakes_all.html)
