Need cash to prop up your regime? Just print some!

As desperate Libyans besiege banks to withdraw their savings Colonel Gaddafi ordered £900million from British banknote printer De La Rue in a last-ditch bid to cobble together cash to fund his dying regime.
The transfer is understood to have been blocked by the Government after the treasury spotted it, with the cash being held at a secure safe house in the north east.
A spokesman for De La Rue declined to comment, but the banknote printer is the only British company in a position to print cash on behalf of a foreign power.
