I was at the American Numismatic Society on Friday looking through files of George Clapp letters from the mid-1940s. I found Clapp's Cost code among the letters. Could it have been inspired by Max Mehl?
Thanks! I'd heard about Clapp's cost code, but hadn't seen this. Large Cent collector George Clapp's first-line collection of cents resides at the ANS. QUICK QUIZ: What does MENDACIOUS mean anyway, how does this relate to dealer B. Max Mehl, and for extra credit, how does the word figure into the Great Numismatic Bibliophile Hoax of 1992?
