THE COPYRIGHT SYMBOL ON COINSRegarding the New Zealand Hobbit coin, last week I asked, "Is this the first coin to include the copyright symbol?" Martin Purdy writes: The 2005 King Kong "coins" (I'm still trying to find a suitable, succinct expression for "Art Medal Bearing a Denomination of Convenience") carried the legend "© UNIVERSAL STUDIOS" on the reverse, so the new issues aren't the first. Not sure about the previous swag of Lord of the Rings AMBDCs in 2003 - I can't really bear to deal with any of them up close!
Thanks. I'm not surprised there was an earlier example of this practice, but there can't be many more out there. But are more on the way? Is this a wave of the future in coinage?
