The year end is a traditional time for making lists. David Pickup forwarded the following conclusions from a discussion at a recent meeting of the Oxford Numismatic Society inspired by the Coin of the Year awards. Their conclusions have a decidedly English flavor (why not?), but I find it hard to disagree with many of them. What do readers think?

Worst commemorative – Churchill crown (far too many produced, low relief and poor design)

Best denomination – half crown. (Members remembered what it was like to get a halfcrown pocket money)

Worst coin error or variety- the dateless 20p

Best reverse design –William IV halfcrown

Best UK modern coin since 1971 - millennium 5 pounds

Best series of coins to collect, Greek if you have deep pockets.

Best designer – anyone called Wyon
