It's been a while since I highlighted any
recent coin designs, so here are a number which crossed my desk
in the last several weeks. Unless otherwise noted, all are
courtesy of ultramodern numismatist Pabitra Saha. -Editor Luxembourg Stainless Steel Coin
This one is the ugliest coin design I've
seen in a long time. Does the world really need a coin
commemorating the Stainless steel on Steel industry of
Luxembourg? -Editor Hungary Coin for Spanyi Bela
I know nothing about this artist, but I do like
the technique here, with the rectangular inset with a different
background texture. The dated side (obverse?) is lackluster,
though - too plain. -Editor Czech Coin for Krystof Harant

The obverse side of the coin contains a section of the title
page of the travel book written by Krystof Harant of Polzice and
Bezdruzice “Journey from Bohemia to the Holy Land, by way of
Venice and the Sea”, over which Kryštof Harant is pictured
sitting on a camel. Below the illustration of Krystof Harant is
his motto “Virtus ut sol micat” depicted as a musical score. To
the right of the section of the title page is a mandolin, and to
the left is a sailing ship on the sea. Above the section of the
title page is a composition of heraldic animals from the large
national emblem inside shields – the Czech lion is in the middle,
with the Moravian eagle on the left and the Silesian eagle on the
right. This coin is for the 450th anniversary of the
Renaissance nobleman Krystof Haran. I'm not sure what to make
of this one. It's busy. It's weird. Yet I find it
strangely beautiful. Maybe it's the pretty color.
