This week Michael Zielinski published an article on the Mint News Blog about a new security enhancement for the 2015 Canadian Gold
Maple Leaf bullion coin. Here's an excerpt and images from that article and an earlier one on the silver bullion coins. -Editor
The Royal Canadian Mint’s 2015-dated Gold Maple Leaf bullion coins will include a new security enhancement which will give the coins a new
appearance. A complex radial line finish has been added across the background fields of both the obverse and reverse design.
The same enhancement had been added to the Silver Maple Leaf starting with the 2014-dated issue, providing a much different and distinct look for
the popular bullion issue. In a previous post, I had showcased some images of a 2014 Silver Maple Leaf that I had received in hand.
The second security feature is a micro-engraved laser mark present on the reverse of each coin. The mark consists of a textured maple leaf image
with two digits placed at center representing the last two digits of the date of the coin.
Interesting effects. I like these changes as security measures, but the aesthetics will take some getting used to. I'll be
curious to see these "in the flesh" rather than via computer images. -Editor
