Last week, Len Augsburger asked readers for help locating a rare volume of an obscure but important publication on counterfeiting so it
could be digitized for the Newman Numismatic Portal project. -Editor
Reader Loren Gatch wrote to Len:
Attached is a scan of my copy of this volume. I do apologize for its lack of alignment, etc., as well as for the check marks next to
the banks' names on the final pages. Those weren't on the original, but were my doing.
While scanning it, I noticed the unusual call number, which reminds me that I most likely made this copy at the Mudd Library at Yale.
So if posterity deserves a better copy than mine, the original can be found there!
Len decided to ask the library team to print and rescan Loren's copy, explaining to the staff that "In coin collecting, this is
known as a 'filler' - when you have a hole in your collection and choose to fill it with a less than desirable example." By
Wednesday, the volume was available on the NNP's Internet Archive page. -Editor
Len writes:
The turnaround time of this whole thing is remarkable. We've gone from "missing document" to crowdsourcing to
"publicly and permanently available" in three days.
Many thanks to all involved. NNP is a community resource, and help like this from the numismatic community is crucial. -Editor
