Islamic Half Dirham Square in Silver
 Al-Andalus – Nazari period of Granada (1250-1492), 1/2 dirham square in silver (0.52 g, 11 mm), Islamic, medieval, anonymous, no date and mint of Granada. Good preservation, beautiful silver tone. Scarce coin, minted in Granada (perfectly readable). Very nice piece in hand. Islamic silver coins like this are simple and enigmatic to the Western eye. Pleasantly crude. -Editor

  Description: One 1820 Miles Distant from London Medal. Interesting class of medal. There are many calendar medals, but I think this is the first I've seen where the main theme is distance. -Editor

  Description: One 1846 Free Trade Anti-Corn Law League Medal. Not a beautiful medal by any stretch, but interesting for the historical context and today's debates on free trade and protectionism in the U.S. -Editor

 Papal, Pio IX (1846-1878). Æ Medal 1856 (44mm, 40.46g, 12h), opus G. Bianchi. PIVS IX PONT MAX ANNO XI, Bust l. R/ VI ID DEC AN CHR MDCCCLIV SINE LABE CONCEPTA, The Pope seated l., reading out the dogma. Bartolotti E 856. Minor scratches on obv., small edge nick, about EF; ; Papal medals are a wonderful series. A richly detailed scene on the reverse, even if it's too busy for my taste. -Editor

  Obverse : bust of nude woman figuring agriculture, above a sentence by Sully, signed by french medallist THENOT Reverse : plowman at work on field with draft horses, cow and bulls Diameter : 68 mm or 2,67 inches Weight : 170 grams or 6 ounces Metal : bronze Edge marks : "bronze" with cornucopia Paris Mint foundry mark I'm speechless on this one, other than to admire the planning of placing the highest-relief area of the obverse opposite the lowest-relief area of the reverse. -Editor

  Third Reich. Medal 1934 NSDAP Hall of Honour Inauguration at Buchholz Adolf Hitler. Silvered bronze, 35,5 mm. Rare. 100 % original. NSDAP is the abbreviation for the Nazi party. Knowing what happened next, these prewar Nazi items always give me the chills. -Editor
