Christopher McDowell adds:
This issue will feature a transcript of the 1788 Connecticut and Federal Mint Account Book along with two articles based on the 1788 records – one by me on the use of slave and child labor to
produce Fugio coppers and the other authored by Gary Trudgen on the New-York Air Furnace and manufacture of the presses used to strike Fugios. This issue will also feature an article by Mark Sportack
that provides a new theory regarding the manufacturer of Hogge money.
In my humble opinion, I think this is one of the most important issues of CNL ever.
That's an impressive list of topics, and I'm looking forward to reading the issue. I'm particularly interested in learning about the use of slave and child labor in coin
production - this is a totally new subject to me. Although I'm sure this was not an uncommon practice in ancient times, I don't recall hearing of this before in America. -Editor
