2017 ONE POUND COIN OBSOLETE BLANK ERROR

David Pickup forwarded this interesting error coin - a 2017 Royal Mint one pound coin struck on an obsolete planchet. Thanks. -Editor

Struck on blank for obsolete and withdrawn type. Obv: profile bust with ELIZABETH II D G REF F D legend and date with panel below. Rev: national symbols with ONE POUND below. 8.54 grams.

Condition
Almost uncirculated; usual bag marks, lustrous. Extremely rare and dramatic; possibly unique.

Discovered in circulation, 2017.

Footnotes
This one pound coin of the new type (issued 2017) has been struck on a blank for the previous, obsolete and withdrawn one pound coin rather than on the new bi-metallic flan that should have been used; such occurrences are extremely rare.
