Paper Money Messages author Jeffrey Wing submitted this holiday item. Thank you. -Editor
As discussed in Paper Money Messages (Vol 2), emergency money was produced in Germany in 1921 during the period of hyper inflation. Often this money represented the
culture of the community. The town of Kahla produced a set of notgeld that describes the Christmas story.
"When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the
Lord has told us about. "So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. (Luke 2:15-16).
My hope is that the holiday season does not become so hectic that we lose sight of the reason for the season.
