The Society was founded by token and medal collectors in 1979 interested in forming an organization focused solely on the study of Maryland exonumia. Under the leadership of dynamic, resourceful, and generous officers, MD TAMS has grown to become Maryland's preeminent organization. It supports research and education for the benefit of serious and novice collectors, numismatists, and hobbyists. The Society meets regularly and participates in regional numismatic events. Four times each year, it publishes its quarterly MD TAMS Journal.
