DR. O.G. KEITTERIDGE CIVIL WAR TOKEN

 

An old Mansfield, Connecticut atlas map of 1860 shows homes along the various streets, with the owner's names dubbed in. On Middle Turnpike (now Rt 44), one can find a home attributed to the name, "Keitteridge". In the pages of other historical information, found on the website of the Mill Museum in Willimantic, is a passage that a woman from town was intending to marry a doctor named Keitteridge from Mansfield, not far from Willimantic.  Noted also was the fact that she lived in a house on Main Street in Willimantic, the town address less the street number that later appears on the token. It looks like they tied the knot! Keitteridge's house which was built in 1810 is still located on Main Street, well-kept and pictured above. The obverse and reverse images of the token are pictured below. With the issuance of these tokens, numismatic history was certainly made here!
