The Coinage of the House of Brunswick-Calenberg-Hannover during the period 1714–1837
By Richard Smith
More than ten years ago, Richard Smith published the book "The Coinage of the Anglo-Hanoverian Personal Union 1714–1837." In it, he addressed the politics of the succession to George I on the British throne and the history of the ruling family. He also listed all the coins issued between 1714 and 1837. The book's publication significantly stimulated interest in this numismatic period. New discoveries and types came to light, new issue years were identified, and several numismatic mysteries were solved.
Richard Smith decided to publish a further book dedicated solely to coinage; however, he passed away in 2021 and was unable to complete his work. The Frankfurt Coin Shop is now publishing his second work on the royal coinage of the Duchy of Brunswick-Lüneburg during the personal union with Great Britain, based on Smith's extensive notes and his collection of coins and medals.
