The E-Sylum: Volume 7, Number 39, September 26, 2004, Article 18 FOUR IDEAS FOR THE 2009 LINCOLN CENT Dick Johnson writes: "Two Senators from Illinois have expressed four ideas for the 2009 Lincoln cent ? the cent that will honor the bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln?s birth and the centennial of the introduction of the Lincoln Cent with Victor David Brenner?s designs. On Tuesday September 21, 2004, they announced they would like to see the U.S. Mint create four separate designs for the reverse of the 2009 cents: (1) Lincoln?s birth in Kentucky; (2) his youth in Indiana; (3) a professional life in Illinois (where he was lawyer and state lawmaker); and (4) the presidency in Washington DC. Senators Dick Durbin and Peter Fitzgerald made the announcement which has the backing of the Lincoln Bicentennial Commission. Durbin serves as the co-chairman of the commission. I have written about this upcoming numismatic event previously in The E-Sylum (latest: vol 7, no 28, July 11, 2004). I hope all this is not just political talk, that Congress will authorize the U.S. Mint to do something really interesting for collectors."
