Auction 447: Coins of the Ancient World
November 2–3, 2026 (Floor Auction Sales)
1,300 lots of coins from the ancient world will be offered during the Künker floor auction sale from November 2 to 3, 2026. The auction sale covers the entire spectrum of ancient numismatics: from Celtic, Greek, and Roman coins to those of the Byzantine era. The selection is rounded out by several pieces from the Migration Period and Islamic numismatics.
No fewer than five significant specialized collections will be sold as part of the auction sale, namely:
• the Walter Louwet Collection
• the Antissa Collection
• a private collection from southern Germany
• a collection of ancient coins spanning two generations
• the collection of a Hanseatic lover of Roman antiquity
These collections complement each other perfectly. Whether you're interested in refined Greek style, Roman history, ancient provenance, or rarities, this auction has something for every lover of ancient coins.
Following a selection of coins from the Celtic tribes is an extensive offering of Greek coins, featuring a rich selection of issues from Syracuse. You can also look forward to numerous archaic coins as well as a series of electrum coins from Mytilene. Particularly unusual is the extensive selection of North African coins.
Collectors of coins from the Roman Republic are spoiled for choice: you'll find not only major rarities but also coins in excellent condition, especially from the period of the civil wars. Now you have the opportunity to acquire coins featuring the portraits of all the major figures of this exciting era. Or are you looking for a specific legion in the series of Marcus Antonius's legionary denarii? The selection is vast. And if you don't succeed in Auction Sale 447, an almost complete series of legionary denarii is also being offered in the Schumm Collection.
Among the coins from the Roman Imperial period, you'll discover an exciting mix of gold, silver, and bronze.
